The Wayne County Board of Supervisors is expected to join other counties in expressing opposition to a proposal in Governor Kathy Hochul’s budget that would remove fossil fuel use in buildings as part of an effort to battle climate change.
Hochul wants to ban gas-operated furnaces and water heaters from new buildings by 2030. The Supervisors’ Government Operations Committee approved a resolution this week against the governor’s plan that likely will be adopted by the full board later this month.
The Finger Lakes Times reports that Ontario, Seneca, and Yates counties are also considering similar resolutions.
