Wayne County Firefighter Dies While Battling Structure Fire

The identity of the firefighter who died while working a structure fire in Wayne County Sunday has been released.

Fairville Volunteer Firefighter Dan DeWolf became unresponsive while crews were working a structure fire Sunday night on Fairville Maple Ridge Road. CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols were given to DeWolf, who later passed away at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. According to the Department, DeWolf was a 32-year member and is a former chief and line officer.

Funeral arrangements for Dan DeWolf have not been finalized at this time.

Some sad news out of Wayne County where a volunteer firefighter died while at the scene of a structure fire Sunday.

The Fairville Volunteer Fire Department announced the passing of one of its members on its Facebook page. The unidentified firefighter reportedly suffered a heart attack while crews were working a structure fire on Fairville Maple Ridge Road in Arcadia.
