Wayne County Under Consideration for New Nuclear Power Project

Could Wayne County soon be home to a second nuclear power facility? The county is among a select group of upstate communities that have expressed interest in hosting a major nuclear energy project being explored by the New York Power Authority.

The city of Rochester and Schuyler County are also included on a list of 23 companies and eight communities across the state that have signaled their willingness to participate in the development of a proposed one-gigawatt nuclear energy facility.

The Ginna nuclear power plant in Ontario, the nation’s smallest nuclear power plant, generates 576 megawatts of power.
