Waterloo is Ready To Celebrate Memorial Day

Waterloo is ready to celebrate Memorial Day. This is the last year for the large flag on the old Main Street School facing LaFayette Park. The school is being turned into apartments and the flag would cover some of the windows. Photo-Greg Cotterill, Finger Lakes Daily News.

Waterloo, New York, the Birthplace of Memorial Day, is ready for the 24th annual Celebrate Commemorate observance this weekend.

There will be musical performances, art and craft shows, children’s games, a youth essay contest, and a big parade celebrating our freedom at 11 a.m. Saturday. The parade will feature Wounded Warriors from the VA Hospital in Canandaigua, escorted by scores of Patriot Guard and American Legion motorcycle riders, bands, floats, and military groups including National Guard and active military troops.

There are many other events including a Civil War encampment and the downtown car show.

Waterloo’s Memorial Day commemoration is always on the traditional date of May 30th.
