Workers at Garlock Sealing Technologies in Palmyra are on strike after months of stalled contract negotiations between union leaders and company officials.
The employees are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 588, which represents about 588 workers at the Wayne County manufacturing plant, according to the Rochester-Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation.
The Rochester Business Journal reports union leaders say members are pushing for wage increases that keep up with the rising cost of living, along with improvements to working conditions.
Workers voted to authorize a strike on Feb. 14 and began picketing outside the facility Monday morning.
This is the second time in recent years that members have taken steps toward a strike. In 2021, workers also authorized a walkout before ultimately approving a new four-year contract.
Founded in 1887, Garlock manufactures high-performance sealing products used in a wide range of industrial applications. The company has operated as a subsidiary of Enpro Industries since 2002.
