Several Ontario County residents reported they received phone calls on Wednesday that they had been contacted by a person claiming to be a deputy with the Sheriff’s Department.

According to Sheriff David Cirencione, the individual advised the person they called they had missed a court appearance and now had a warrant out for their arrest. The caller told them what their bail would be and that they needed to pay 10% of it over the phone.

Sheriff Cirencione again reiterated the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office will never solicit funds to be paid over the phone for bail or to avoid a warrant arrest. If you received one of the phone calls as described above on Wednesday, you’re asked to reach out to the Sheriff’s Department at (800) 394-4560 to report it.
