A fire caused around $20,000 in damages to a residence in Seneca County.

When firefighters arrived at the Romulus home on State Route 96A on Tuesday they determined the fire was in the chimney and worked to put out the blaze in about 20 minutes. The cause was determined to be a buildup of creosote in the chimney walls.

The home is insured.

Ovid Fire Department was assisted by the Romulus, Lodi, and Interlaken Fire Departments.
