A local nursing home has closed a portion of its facility due to ongoing financial and staffing challenges.
According to 13WHAM News, Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation has kept one-third of its beds offline since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, about 40 beds remain unused, leaving the Waterloo facility operating at a capacity of 80 beds. Hurlbut Care Communities, which manages 11 facilities across the Rochester-Finger Lakes Region, has been able to keep the Waterloo location open despite the closures. One of the key issues is that Medicaid reimbursement only covers about 70% of operating costs.
The vacant wing of the facility is currently unoccupied and is being utilized for storage.
