A Canandaigua man was arrested Friday morning on a charge of menacing after allegedly threatening a motorist with a baseball bat.

Police say 37-year-old Steven C. Murphy was taken into custody at his North Road residence on an arrest warrant issued by Canandaigua Town Court. The charge stems from a September 4 incident, when a female driver became confused by road construction signage.

Authorities allege Murphy approached the woman’s vehicle, yelled profanities, and inserted a baseball bat into her driver’s window, causing her to fear for her safety.

Murphy was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
