Ontario County May Partially Remove Residency Requirement for Sheriff’s Staff

A proposed rule change would allow some people living outside Ontario County to work for the sheriff’s department.

Currently, there is a residency requirement, meaning you have to live within the county to get the job. Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione says only 20% of the employees will be allowed to live outside of the county. Any employees living outside the county would not be able to take home Sheriff’s Department vehicles.

The Ontario County Board of Supervisors will vote on the rule change next week.
