Guilty Plea in Geneva Kidnapping & Torture Case

One of the suspects charged in the April 2021 kidnapping and torture of a man in Geneva has pleaded guilty.

The Elmira Star-Gazette reports that 20-year-old Malik Weems entered his guilty plea in Chemung County Court where he also admitted to a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the torture and murder of a New York City man in Elmira in January of 2021.

Weems and a New York City man were charged with holding the Geneva victim at gunpoint, beating him with belts and cords, and burning him with a knife. Weems faces 18 years to life on the murder charge and 15 years to life for the kidnapping.
