A Geneva man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing at an apartment complex, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they received a 911 call around 7:09 a.m. Saturday reporting that a person had been stabbed multiple times at an apartment on Genesis Way in the Town of Geneva.
When deputies arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene on foot. Investigators later identified the suspect as 57-year-old Corwin Coleman of Geneva.
Authorities said officers with the Geneva Police Department spotted Coleman entering a building in the town shortly after 8:30 a.m. He was taken into custody by deputies around 8:37 a.m.
Coleman, who is currently on New York State parole for robbery, was charged with first-degree assault. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail and is awaiting arraignment through CAP Court.
The victim was transported by Finger Lakes Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and is listed in stable condition. Investigators said the incident is believed to be isolated and that the victim and suspect are known to each other. An order of protection will be requested for the victim.
The investigation was led by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the New York State Police and Geneva Police.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
