A Geneva man has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged assault involving a child.

Geneva Police say officers from the department’s Uniformed Division responded to the Boys and Girls Club around 5 p.m. Monday to assist Ontario County Child Protective Services with a report of an assault.

Investigators determined that the incident allegedly occurred the previous evening, February 8th, inside a residence in the city. Police say 33-year-old Anthony Morgan Jr. is accused of striking a child under the age of 17 multiple times with a leather belt, causing physical injuries.

Morgan was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was processed at the Geneva Police Department and transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
