After serving as a school in Waterloo for 84 years, the Main Street School is now an apartment building for senior citizens.
The Finger Lakes Times reports the three-story West Main Street school, which opened in 1928, has been converted into 35 apartments, and more than 80% of those are leased and occupied.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on June 18th.
The building has 33 one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom units. The auditorium and stage were separated from the rest of the building and rented as the new home for the Seneca Community Players theater group.
The building has been renamed “LaFayette Apartments” after the park next to the former school building.
