Firefighters Retrieve Boat That Fell Through Ice on Canandaigua Lake

Canandaigua Professional Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 2098 Truck-281 Engine-211 Squad-261 responded to the Canandaigua City Pier on Sunday to retrieve an ice boat that had fallen through the ice.

Upon arrival, Truck-281 found several civilians attempting retrieve the boat. Crystal Beach was requested to stand by in their quarters with their ice equipment. Engine-211 crew retrieved the boat and brought it safely to shore for the owners.

The Canandaigua Professional Firefighters I.A.F.F. Local 2098 is reminding residents if they need assistance getting a pet, retrieving equipment, or getting a boat out of icy water, call 911. Retrieving things from the ice without drysuits, proper equipment, and/or training can be extremely dangerous.
