Canandaigua’s City Council has approved the 2026 city budget.

By a 7-1 vote, council members adopted a $22.4 million spending plan, along with a $7.13 million water fund budget and an $8.22 million sewer fund budget.

The lone “no” vote came from Mayor Bob Palumbo, and it came during his final meeting presiding over the council. Palumbo called the plan a “maintenance budget,” saying it keeps city services running but does little to make up for a lack of increased state aid. He also said the budget falls short when it comes to fire department staffing, warning that it could lead to continued excessive overtime.
