The state DEC has once again extended the deadline for comments on the proposed expansion of a local landfill.
Seneca Meadows in Seneca County is due to shut down next year, however, its operator Waste Connections has applied for a permit to continue through 2040. The final decision is up to the state agency, which agreed last week to extend the deadline to respond to the proposed expansion’s draft environmental impact statement to this Friday. The plan is to add 47 acres of newly lined landfill area and increase the height by 70 feet.
Seneca Meadows is the largest landfill in New York.
