Danish waste management firm Nordsense is suing Newark-based Ultralife Corp. for $10 million dollars, alleging the company supplied defective lithium batteries.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, claims the faulty batteries caused overheating, fires, and explosions, impacting Nordsense’s operations and reputation. Nordsense, which uses smart sensors to monitor waste bin fill levels, reported incidents last year, including one where a customer’s sensor caught fire, prompting an evacuation.

The lawsuit claims Ultralife failed to resolve the issue, leaving Nordsense unable to bill customers and facing financial losses.
