A Canandaigua native has been named the Command Officer of the USS Texas. Commander Andrew McGovern officially took over in his new role on January 10th following a change-of-command ceremony in Groton, Connecticut.
The fast-attack submarine USS Texas and crew operate under SUBRON 12 and its primary mission is to provide fast-attack submarines that are ready, prepared, and committed to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe.
According to the Navy, Cmdr. McGovern brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this role. His previous assignments, including key leadership roles within the submarine community, have prepared him for the demanding job of commanding the USS Texas.
