Cayuga Nation members, opposed to the federally recognized representative Clint Halftown, have launched a legal defense fund for those experiencing persecution by Halftown.
The Legal Defense Fund will support attorneys who represent the Council of Chiefs and traditional citizens.
They will also work with a goal of undoing the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ recognition of Halftown as the nation’s leader.
The council also noted Halftown’s recent blockade of the Finger Lakes Drive-In in Aurelius. The business is owned by Paul Meyer, a longtime opponent of the Halftown council.
