Amid Possible Threats, Seneca Co. Sheriff Increasing Dept. Presence at Schools

Seneca County Sheriff

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office will deploy additional deputies to area schools for “the unforeseeable future.”

Sheriff Tim Thompson said this is being done out of an abundance of caution following threats of school violence being made on various social media platforms.

The sheriff’s office is working with law enforcement partners to determine the credibility of any threats. At this time, Thompson adds the threats don’t seem credible; however, deputies and investigators are closely monitoring the situation.

On Monday, Auburn Police said they’re monitoring possible threats against Auburn Junior High while schools across Broome, Chemung, and Tompkins Counties have been the subject of various social media threats on Sunday night and Monday morning.
