Approximately $87,000 will go to two Auburn groups helping those with substance abuse disorders.
City Council unanimously approved a resolution Thursday to award the money, which comes as part of a settlement with opioid manufacturers, to Nick’s Ride for Friends and Confidential Help for Alcohol and Drugs (CHAD).
Nick’s Ride Executive Director Ashley Moench spoke to Council before the vote, saying the work her team does is hard but necessary.
“We are very grateful for the city’s ongoing support,” Meench said. “This is a true public health emergency for our community. It is tough work but it’s crucial work and it’s not getting easier.”
CHAD Executive Director Caroline Dixon also addressed the council.
I just wanted to send a sincere thank you to everybody for these funds which will help us greatly in expanding our programs, funding training for our staff, and endless opportunities for us to expand some things and initiatives that we’ve been working on that will help to support our community overall,” Dixon said.
CHAD and Nick’s Ride will split the money 50/50.
