Thunderbolts or Wolverines? We’ll soon know what Weedsport Central School District’s new nickname will be.
Students, staff, and community members within the district as well as alumni can weigh in on their preferred logo and nickname.
A vote/survey will take place at the Junior/Senior High School on Thursday from 5:00-8:00p and on Saturday from 9:00a-12:00p. Alumni living outside the district can vote via email; those with an email on file with the alumni association will receive a link this week to complete the survey.
As this is an advisory vote, the Board of Education will take that information under consideration when it makes the final decision on the new logo and nickname on November 6.
Students and staff were surveyed from October 18-26. From a list of five choices – Evergreen, Express, Green Wave, Thunderbolts, and Wolverines – Wolverines and Thunderbolts proved the most popular.
The district can no longer brand itself as the Warriors due to a decision by the New York State Education Department that has banned schools from using Native American names, logos, or imagery.
