Four corrections officers were attacked by an inmate at the Cayuga Correctional Facility.
According to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, the incident happened on March 30 when officers entered the cell of an inmate who had covered up his window and ignored orders to uncover it. Once inside, the inmate attacked the officers, spitting bloody saliva at them, before being subdued.
The inmate remained combative while being escorted to a holding cell. Eventually, the individual was placed in full restraints.
Three officers were taken to Cortland Medical Center after being exposed to a significant amount of blood by the inmate with all officers returning to duty following treatment.
The inmate was transferred from the Moravia facility to Auburn Correctional Facility.
