Registration is now open for a boating safety course coming to Auburn next month.
The New York Safe Boating Course, hosted by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, will take place on Saturday, March 7, at Auburn Fire Station No 1, 31 Seminary St. The course will run from 9:00a-5:00p.
The course will go over safe boating best practices. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a safe boating certificate.
There is a $35.00 registration fee. Those 18 and older will also need to pay a $10.00 fee to New York State Parks for the permanent boating safety certificate. NYS Parks doesn’t collect a fee for those under 18.
Students must be at least ten years old by March 7 to register. Registration can be done here.
Under state law, those operating motorized vessels on New York waterways must complete a safe boating course. While not required for those operating unmotorized vessels, such as kayaks and canoes, the state recommends kayakers and canoeists also take the course.
