The Cayuga County Health Department is reminding residents to be aware of harmful algal blooms.

According to the department, summer temperatures mean that the risk of HABs is still present in Cayuga County and across the state.

People, pets, and livestock should avoid any areas of water that appear to be discolored or has floating mats or scum on the surface. The department adds that when in doubt about a potential HAB, it is best to avoid the area.

To view confirmed HABs or to report a bloom, visit the DEC’s website.
