Following Increase in Scams, Law Enforcement Urges Public to Be Vigilant

Following an increase in scams in the area, the Auburn Police Department and Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office are urging the public to remain vigilant.

In a joint press release from Chief Jim Slayton and Sheriff Brian Schenck, two specific cases were highlighted in which scammers tricked victims out of large sums of money. In both cases, the victims were tricked into turning over the cash to individuals who then transported the money out of the area to the scammers. Law enforcement believe those transporting the cash were also being tricked.
