The Cayuga Nation has placed almost $2.5 million dollars worth of land into federal trust.

The Citizen reports 5-different properties in Union Springs and Springport were transferred in October to the “United States of America in Trust for the benefit of the Cayuga Nation.” The properties include Lakeside Entertainment, Lakeside Trading, and a former car wash all on Cayuga Street in Union Springs, along with almost 4 acres on Route 90 in Springport, and 108 acres on North Cayuga Street in Union Springs.

With their placement into federal trust, the 115 acres are now officially exempt from local and state taxes, as well as zoning oversight.
