Cayuga County Reports Under 200 Suspected Overdoses in 2023

Suspected overdoses declined in Cayuga County in 2023.

According to the county’s overdose dashboard, December saw one fatal and six nonfatal overdoses. This gives 2023 a total of 159 suspected overdoses with seven of those being fatal.

This is down from previous years. The dashboard’s records go back to 2020 with 2020, 2021, and 2022 each seeing over 200 suspected overdoses. 2021 saw the highest numbers with 262 nonfatal and 16 fatal overdoses being recorded.

Looking at demographics, 25-34-year-olds made up the highest percentage of suspected overdoses in 2023, coming in at 37.1%; males made up 60.5% of reported cases, and the vast majority, 80.9%, happened in the central part of the county, defined as the Auburn/Cayuga area.
