The American flag at the Cayuga County Office Building was lowered to half-staff on Monday.
Legislature Chair Aileen McNabb-Coleman directed this be done in honor of the Syracuse Police Officer and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in a gunfight Sunday night in Salina.
McNabb-Coleman has also encouraged municipalities, businesses, schools, and individuals to do the same.
This marks the first line of duty death for a Syracuse Police Officer in over 30 years. The sheriff’s office also hasn’t seen a line of duty death in decades.
