Aurora May Have To Dissolve

(Nate Hand, Finger Lakes News Radio)

The village of Aurora may need to dissolve if it does not receive financial assistance to absorb the costs of operating the water treatment plant.

The treatment plant is owned by Wells College. According to the Citizen, village officials have sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul detailing the challenges of taking over the water plant.

The college, which closed in June, owns the facility and sold water to the village. After the abrupt closure, the village began operating the plant in October.

Village officials say water rates will have to more than double for the 225 village residents if the village continues to operate the water treatment plant.
