Auburn’s new city council has officially been sworn in.
Rhoda Overstreet-Wilson and Christina Calarco were sworn in Monday as the city’s newest councilors while Jimmy Giannettino took his place as Auburn’s first new mayor in 16 years. Councilors Terry Cuddy and Ginny Kent were not up for reelection this year so did not need to defend their seats.
With the retirement of Councilor Tim Locastro, Auburn City Council is now composed entirely of Democrats.
This marks not only the first time in the city’s history that the council has had a female majority but also the first time an African American has served on it.
The full inauguration can be viewed on the city’s website.
