(Ed Helinski, FLX Local Media)

The Auburn Police Department is investigating the theft of almost $50,000 from Tompkins Community Bank using an ATM skimming device.

The device was placed on an ATM at the bank’s North Street location late last week, allowing the suspects to record customer card information.

Surveillance footage captured two suspects involved in the crime, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are urging banks and customers to report similar incidents. Tompkins Community Bank is cooperating with authorities and has assured customers of refunds.
